    Prerequisite: None

    This coursed practices basic color design theory and application. Students utilize tools, materials, and equipment to develop technical skills applicable to interior, architectural and other related fields of design. Students identify cultural heritages and the psychological implications of design.

  3. Course Objectives:

    Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

    1. Identify and interpret all terminology related to design elements and principles.
    2. Identify and interpret various color systems and theories, including Prang, Albers, Munsell, Itten and Otswold.
    3. Apply psychological and physiological characteristics of design elements and principles
    4. Apply the significance of culture, geography, economics, and political factors in the use of design elements and principles.
    5. Apply basic theory of elements and principles of design in two and three dimensional graphic presentations.
    6. Apply logical sequencing to the design process.
    7. Effectively use various materials, equipment, media, and tools used in the preparation of professional quality graphic presentations.
    8. Present design ideas in written, oral and graphic form.
    9. Analyze design value and graphic effectiveness of projects produced in class.
    10. Students will produce a small presentation board project illustrating color design principals and techniques.

    The student will:

    1. Develop a series of 2 dimensional color studies illustrating various color systems and theories, including Prang, Albers, Munsell, Itten and Otswold.
    2. Design and present a color and fabric design scheme for a simple interior space.
  5. Methods of Presentation:

    Lectures, illustrated slide lectures, videotapes, lab demonstrations and class discussion. Studio experiments and projects using various media and tools. Student presentations and critiques. Presentation of supporting materials and visual aids: color wheels, trade organization color swatches, additional tests, etc. Field trips and guest lecturers.
