Our Interior Architectural Design Certificates:
The Santa Monica College Interior Architectural Design Program offers four certificates in addition to a Associate of Arts Degree. The Associate of Arts Degree is a 60 unit (2 year) degree combining General Education classes with a major in Interior Architectural Design.
The four certificates are:
- Professional- Interior Architectural Design Level I
- Professional- Interior Architectural Design Level II
- Set Design & Art Direction for Film & TV
- CAD Production & Design (Computer Aided Design/Drafting)
Level I Professional Certificate
This program leads to multiple career opportunities in retail and wholesale design. The focus is on design fundamentals, perspective sketching, color, computer-aided design (CAD), and materials and products. After the completion of the 24 unit program, a Design Certificate is awarded for Interior Architectual Design Level I.
There are also Recommended Elective classes for Professional Skills.

- Students can cross levels and take any class or Recommended Elective at any time in the two Levels if no prerequisite is required.
- Students must achieve "C" or better in each Interior Architectural Design Program Course to receive a degree or professional certificate.
- General Education courses must be completed for an A.A. Degree.
Level II Professional Certificate
This program leads to employment skills in the selection and specification of contract and residential surface materials and furniture. Expertise is developed in advanced perspective sketching, architecture and furniture styles, lighting, advanced computer-aided design, the wholesale trade, and practical internship positions in the industry. A Design Certificate is awarded for Interior Architectural Design Level II.
In addition, a student may also be eligible for the 60 unit, Associate of Arts Degree upon completion of 20 additional General Education courses specific to the degree requirements.
