Our Student Internship Program:
If you are interested in earning credits while gaining practical work experience in the field of Design, follow the list of 5 steps below and enroll in the Internship Program.
- You should be an Interior Architectural Design Major interested in Interior Architectural Design, Set Design, Art Direction for Film and TV, Furniture Design, or CAD Production and Design. (International Students must first get approval from Pat Preston - 1.310.434.4043 in the International Education Center on the main campus before you add the class and begin your internship.)
- Find the course that best suits your available time. These units are found in the course Catalog under Interior Architectural Design INTDSN 90A-C. See current Course Catalog for current section numbers. [Note: You must have concurrent enrollment in at least one Interior Architectural Design Course and a total (including internship) of seven or more units in the Spring and Fall Semesters. Under the new "alternate" program you may complete an internship in the summer without enrolling in additional classes.]
- Review the attached list of potential positions available or use your own resources to find an available internship. Arrange an interview with the company. Keep in mind if you are already working in a position that relates to your major, you can get credit for it.
- Once you have obtained a position you will need an APPROVAL CODE. You will need the approval code to add the class on line. Contact - Gloria Mottler for the forms and an approval code.
Receive 1 unit for every 60 hrs you work in a non-paid internship.- 1 unit 60 hours unpaid
- 2 units 120 hours unpaid
- 3 units 180 hours unpaid
- 1 unit 75 hours paid
- 2 units 150 hours paid
- 3 units 225 hours paid
- Internship students need to complete four forms that will be given to you by the Instructor or the Coordinator.
- Form 1- Internship Application
- Form 2- Student Agreement
- Form 3- Internship Learning Agreement
These 3 forms should be filled out completely and signed by Student, Instructor and Employer, then returned ASAP at the beginning of the semester with a business card from the company. - Form 4- Intern Evaluation
This final form must be returned before the end of the semester in order to receive credit.
Additional Notes:
- The course is on a credit/non credit basis; there are no letter grades for these classes.
- There are no class meetings to attend.
- You can start an Internship class (90A, B, or C) anytime in the semester as long there is enough time left to complete the number of required hours.
- Internships can become paid positions.
- It is recommended that students obtain a Letter of Recommendation from their employer at the end of the internship for their future use.
- Call employers for an interview ASAP.
